Project information is not mined for intelligence
While not every project manager has decision-making control, most have the data to facilitate decision-making. The problem is getting that data and turning it into something actionable. Who on my team is overloaded? Do we need to hire more resources? Why were our estimates on the last project so far off? Project plans represent a wealth of information but that information is all too often not mined for intelligence. Part of the problem is the tool being used to manage a project – how easy does a given tool make it to extract dimensions of data so it can be analyzed? The point is that decision makers don’t want more unfiltered data – they crave intelligence that can be used to justify important strategic business decisions. The mistake many project managers make is not realizing that there’s gold in their project plans that’s just waiting to be mined. – Liz Pearce, LiquidPlanner CEO
